As one TV talk show host in Jordan learned, it pays to have a sturdy and well built table.
Apparently the guests on the tv show Seven Stars were fighting over the war in Syria. It began with journalist Mohammad al-Jayousi "accusing" fellow journalist Shaker al-Johari of "supporting the Syrian rebels." Al-Johari then "accused" his opponent "of taking money for supporting Assad."
Of course any clip of a table flip isn't complete without a comparison to Teresa Giudice's table flip during an episode of the reality tv show The Real Housewives of New Jersey. You can catch the flip that started it all at the 0:30 mark.
I'd say that the Jordanian clip is better though. I feel like if you were to watch that one backwards, it would look like two guys trying to put a very heavy and unbalanced table top onto its legs.
But unfortunately this clip was posted online by MEMRI, a “research institute” that I’ve blogged about before. They’ve been criticized for publishing content that fuels the stereotype of the “angry Arab.” I’d say that this fits the bill. Sure the video’s funny to watch, but it’s part of a long history of Western media (this video was picked up and written about by Time, whose audience are primarily located in the West) dehumanizing people that come from a specific region in the world so that they become one dimensional. That’s how negative stereotypes are made and generated. That’s what makes it easier for Western politicians to validate invading Arab countries, stealing their oil, and sending in the drones. Well that escalated quickly!
